(Fincastle, VA) - The Botetourt County Public Schools via the Office of the Division Superintendent announced that the schools in the division suffered little or no damage from today's earthquake. As a precaution, designated school staff members inspected all of our facilities to ensure the safety of our students and staff members.
A portion of one school, Lord Botetourt High School (Main Gymnasium) required an additional precautionary inspection by a structural engineer and this was performed by the school division’s on-call A/E firm, Spectrum Design.
All schools are safe for tomorrow’s opening of the 2011-2012 school year, including Lord Botetourt’s Main Gym. All schools in the division will open on time on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Our staff, along with other A/E professionals, will continue to evaluate all of our buildings as needed.
