Coach Chuck Pound's Cavaliers are off and running to a 15-3 start, 6-0 in the Blue Ridge District. A year ago they ran the table in the District, and advanced to the Division 4 Region semi-finals, before falling at Turner Ashby.
They are doing it with a cohesive team unit. The team is just nine deep, but all the parts of this machine work in unison.
Senior Jade Lewis just eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for her career. Point Guard Emily Wampler is starting for her second season, and is running the team at a high level.
Balanced scoring and defense make the Cavaliers a tough out come tournament time. And with 11 straight wins and counting, the Cavs are a tough out all the time.
The players explain that this group spends a lot of time together off the court, and that has led to better communication and chemistry on the court. It's working, and it's possible this group could surpass the 21 win season they had a year ago.
