Buchanan Elementary "Botcats" robot design team heads to State Tournament

posted Dec 3, 2013, 9:54 AM by bcps web

The Buchanan Botcats FIRST Lego League Team attended the 2013 Lynchburg Regional FLL Tournament on November 9. This year’s challenge was called “Nature’s Fury.” We chose to research Flash Flooding because we tend to have a lot of flooding in our area around the creeks and streams that feed the James River. We wore our crazy umbrella hats to make the point that flash floods occur during storms that produce a lot of rain in a short time.

Our team won 1st place for Robot Design and we have been invited to the State Tournament being held at James Madison University on December 7-8. This is quite an honor because there will be approximately 100 teams chosen from all over the state of Virginia! The Buchanan Bobcats’ team has 6 members from Buchanan Elementary School who are in the 4th and 5th grades. Our coaches are Dr. & Mrs. Livingston. Many thanks to our sponsors: Virginia Military Institute Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering; Buchanan Elementary PTA; Buchanan Elementary School; and Livingston Embedded Computing, LLC.
