The Building Trades II Class taught by Mr. Phillip Simmons at BTEC had fifteen students who competed in various SkillsUSA district competitions from all different areas of the trades. The students competed in everything from Cabinetmaking to Plumbing to Job Skill Demonstration. Of those fifteen students who placed, fourteen placed in the top three places for their category.

Those receiving top honors and therefore given the opportunity to compete at state level are:

Isaac Austin, first place Carpentry; Caleb Johnson, third place Carpentry; Chad Morris, first place Cabinetmaking; Alex McDonough, second place Cabinetmaking; Brandon Angle; Brandon Moore; Chris Moore and Sherman Austin second place Teamworks; J.W Trent, first place Job Skill Demonstration; Jacob Hodges, first place Wiring; Dylan Frango, second place Residential Electricity; Will Cochran, first place Plumbing; Garrett Ayers second place Brick Layer; Dylan Kiger, second place Brick Masonry.

Isaac Austin and Will Cochran competed in the state level contest in Roanoke. Thirteen of the students who competed and placed in the top 3 at district level were sophomores or juniors and will have the opportunity to compete again next year.
