small world, BIG IMPACT

VWCC will be hosting an art show on September 10th from 5 – 7pm. An exciting aspect of this
program will be a display of art created as a joint STEM venture between Botetourt County HS
Biology and Art students bringing to their canvas the world of biology as seen through a microscope.
Our mental protons will be soaring as we enjoy this unique view of the world around us!

Both science and art students were asked to consider the theme "Small World, Big Impact."
Biology students selected a micro- or macroscopic living organism that they were studying
(as a regular part of their Dual Enrollment BIO 102 course). They each researched an organism
and were asked to conceptualize the organism's role and impact in a larger environment.
Then the science students teamed with both 2D and 3D art students to present and further
develop the idea. Art students were then tasked with conceptualizing the impact in their
assigned media. Combined, the scientists and artists will be presenting photographs, 2D
and 3D art and artist statements illustrating their group interpretations.

Opening attendees will have the opportunity to meet and speak with the artists themselves.
Light refreshments will be served. Invitation with details to follow.
