The 2014 JRHS Mountain Magic Fall Art Exhibition was held at the Episcopal Church in Buchanan on October 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. James River students exhibited two-dimensional artwork including charcoal drawing, graphite drawing, pen and ink drawing, pastel drawing, and mixed media painting. The exhibit was enjoyed by past and present students as well as parents and community patrons.
The Bank of Botetourt sponsored the Best of Show award. Jo Lindahl won Best of Show with her acrylic painting entitled “Cherry Pie”. The Best Use of Medium award, sponsored by the Buchanan Special Events Committee, went to Hollie Boyd for her charcoal drawing entitled “Laugh, I Nearly Died”. Tess Drzymala won the People’s Choice Award for her mixed media painting entitled “Mill Mountain”. The People’s Choice Award is sponsored by James River High School. Due to the interest in a number of the exhibited works, students sold their artwork to community patrons.
The following students won Merit Awards for their entries: Emily Delp, Kyle Kennedy, Kiera Coles, Ben Watts, Haley Snead, Tiffany Altizer, Tess Drzymala, and Brittani Walters. Ethan Aylor and Hollie Hill each won two merit awards for separate entries in the show.
