On Friday, November 4, 2016 at approximately 12:20 pm, Lord Botetourt High School implemented a lockdown.

School officials discovered a written statement located in a girl’s restroom, indicating that a bomb was on school grounds.  Lord Botetourt High School responded by implementing a lockdown while a thorough search of the building and grounds were conducted.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene immediately with law enforcement personnel and K-9 units from the Virginia State Police, Roanoke City Police Department, and the Virginia Tech Police Department.

The lockdown ended at approximately 2:35 pm.  No threat to students, faculty or the school was discovered; however the Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the school division, is continuing to investigate this matter.

All decisions made during this event were made based on maintaining student safety.

The school division expresses appreciation to all agencies involved for their support related to the evolving situation today.
