Internet Safety in BCPS

Providing an environment that is safe for students is vitally important to BCPS employees in our schools. Just as important as this is maintaining a safe environment for our students when they use the internet in our buildings. Below are some of the responsibilities and steps that are taken in our schools to ensure that your student is learning in a safe environment.

Administrators

  • Understand how technology enables a variety of measures that can support both formative and summative goals.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Support the use of technology to enhance instruction and learning in different ways.

Instructional Staff

  • Provide internet safety instruction.
  • Monitor student use of technology.
  • Participate in available professional development.
  • Use available technologies to enhance learning in the classroom.

IRTs

  • Explore new technologies and their impact on learning.
  • Support teachers through effective integration of technology in the classroom.
  • Model acceptable uses of technology.
  • Provide professional development for teachers.

Library/Media Specialists

  • Provide information and instruction on safe internet use and becoming a good digital citizen.
  • Model acceptable uses of technology.

Students

  • Abide by BCPS Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Participate in internet safety lessons.
